Conditions Treated
At hope-iatry™ we have chosen to specialize in a subset of conditions prevalent among neurodivergent patients.
These conditions include:
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Adjustment Disorders
Anxiety
Autism Spectrum Disorder - Level 1 (ASD)
Depression
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Tic disorders (including Tourette syndrome)
While this list is not meant to exclude the ability to diagnose and treat other conditions, it is provided to show the area of specialization and expertise hope-iatry™ brings to the mental health care community.
Patients Served
We have chosen the child, adolescent, and young adult population as our focus. Bracketing our patients between the ages of six and 26 allows us to more accurately diagnose at the lower end of the age range, and provides the opportunity for intervention in college, early career, and quarter-century crises at the upper end.
Principal Provider
Maureen, a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the clinic’s principal provider, founded hope-iatry™ based on 30 years of caring for others as a Registered Nurse, including raising her five children and 15 years as a Navy wife. In a variety of nursing specialties, she saw barriers to access and inflexibility in mental health care result in disproportionate impact on children and adolescents, and their parents.
Inspired by her experiences she envisioned a clinic where parents could bring their children for personalized mental health care and advocacy that meets their needs first—rather than the needs of healthcare systems, insurance companies, and schools. Her vision became a reality with the creation of hope-iatry™.
Maureen prioritizes an integrative approach to treatment that emphasizes the wholeness of person, environmental context and influence, and connection with self, and is anchored by evidence-based interventions. She is in her second year as a fellow in the Finley Psychoanalytic Psychodynamic Fellowship and has positioned psychotherapy at the heart of her care philosophy. Accordingly, talk therapy is part of every appointment. Additionally, medication may be appropriate for some patients and will be prescribed after gaining an understanding of the symptoms to be treated and confirming the best course of action supported by the best and most recent medical evidence.
The decision to prescribe medication must be a collaboration between provider, patient, and parent, and represents a commitment to comply with her medication orders fully and to follow the practice guidelines regarding active participation in therapy. This includes no alcohol or illicit drug use.
